A man and woman who live at a mobile home on Rex Aire Court southwest of Arnold reportedly heard someone breaking into their home and fled before it was burglarized. A video game system and television were stolen, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
At about 6:15 p.m. Jan. 22, a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman who live in the home reportedly heard a window shatter, so they fled. When the deputy arrived and the residents returned, they found that a PlayStation video game system worth $400 and a 43-inch TV worth $150 were missing, the report said.
The man told authorities he saw someone wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and black pants near his neighbor’s home before he and his girlfriend heard banging at the back door of their home. He said they believed the banging was because of one of the couple’s cat. However, when the banging stopped, the couple heard glass from a back window break, according to the report.
The man said he got a baseball ball and kitchen knife and inspected the back of the home, but he didn’t see anybody. Then, he and his girlfriend left the home in their car and contacted the Sheriff’s Office, the report said.
When a deputy inspected the home, he found the broken window, the back door unlocked and the front door open. The damage to the window and blinds was estimated at $110, according to the report.
As of Jan. 28, the video game system and TV had not been recovered and there were no suspects, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
