A Wildwood man has been charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon after he was shot by St. Louis County Police who were responding to a domestic disturbance. Police reported the man pointed a gun that had a live round in the chamber at officers before he was shot.
Cole Reynolds, 32, was charged on Thursday, April 23, the day after he was shot in the neck. After he was shot, Reynolds was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at an area hospital, and as of April 24, he was being held on a $500,000 bond at the St. Louis County Jail, police reported.
According to the case’s probable-cause statement, officers were called on Wednesday, April 22, to a home in the 18700 block of Wild Horse Farm Court. Officers were told Reynolds had a gun, but a family member had removed the magazine from the weapon.
Officers were talking with the family member outside the home when Reynolds came out of the house. Reynolds had a gun in his waistband, and he yelled at the police that he was a federal agent and ordered the officers to get on the ground, the report said.
Reynolds then allegedly pointed the gun, which had a red laser sight, at the officers. An officer shot at Reynolds, hitting him in the neck, according to the report.
While officers rendered aid to Reynolds, he allegedly continued to insist he was a CIA agent. Officers were told Reynolds has a history of mental issues, the report said.
The officer who shot Reynolds is 32 years old with 10 years of law enforcement experience. St. Louis County Police did not release the officer’s name.
The St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons were continuing to investigate the incident as of April 24, police reported.
