Imperial woman allegedly assaults family members

Madison Raney

Madison N. Raney, 23, of Imperial allegedly attacked two family members inside a home in the 800 block of Lincoln Drive in Imperial. She allegedly hit the man with a lamp and broke a window by swinging a cane through it, according to court documents.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Wednesday, Oct. 1, charged Raney with first-degree domestic assault, a class B felony; two counts of third-degree domestic assault, class E felonies; armed criminal action, an unclassified felony; and second-degree property damage, a class B misdemeanor, court records show.

As of Thursday, Oct. 2, Raney was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court documents show.

Raney was out of jail on a $25,000 bond at the time of the alleged attack. She had been charged in December 2022 for allegedly abusing a 3-week-old child. Raney also was charged earlier this year for allegedly attacking the same relatives at the same Imperial home, court records said.

She was charged with abuse or neglect of a child, a class B felony, for harming the baby in September 2021. In February, she was charged with two counts of third-degree domestic assault for the alleged attack that happened in January 2024, according to court documents.

A jury trial for those two cases is scheduled to begin on Jan. 27, court records said.

The latest alleged assault happened on Oct. 1. Raney is accused of breaking a lamp on the man’s face after she had struck him four or five times, the case’s probable-cause statement said.

Raney then grabbed the man’s cane and smashed a window, causing an estimated $500 worth of damage. She then punched another woman in the home before leaving, the report said.

However, Raney returned to the home and allegedly punched the woman several times while pulling the woman’s hair. Raney had been served with a protection order in March 2024 that prohibited her from coming within 1,000 feet of the house, according to the report.

The protection order was filed after Raney allegedly assaulted the man and woman in January 2024 at the home. She allegedly hit the woman in the face with a glass and punched the man and woman several times, a probable-cause statement filed on Jan. 31, 2024, said.

At that time, the man was able to force Raney out of the home. However, she forced her way back in, damaging the house’s front door, door frame and the door’s windows, the report said.

Class B felonies are punishable by five to 15 years in prison, and class E felonies carry penalties of up to four years in prison. The armed criminal action charged is punishable by three to 15 years in prison, and a class B misdemeanor carries a penalty of up to six months in jail and fine of up to $1,000.
