A lightning strike on April 10 heavily damaged a home in the 12500 block of Jordan Lane east of De Soto. The two residents who live there were home when the lightning struck and got out of the home uninjured, De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald said.
He said firefighters responded to the house off Fountain City Road at 2:37 p.m. and found that a lightning strike had caused a small fire in the house and “quite a bit of structural damage.” The home is uninhabitable.
“Two neighboring residences also had (electrical) issues due to the strike,” Fitzgerald said.
The Hematite and Hillsboro fire protection districts and the Festus and De Soto fire departments assisted with the fire. The Valle Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
