Man allegedly threatens women, infant with gun; shoots at vehicle in Arnold

Lavell Shamar McCulley

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged a St. Louis man with seven felonies after he allegedly forced his way into an Arnold home, threatened two women and a baby with a gun and shot at a vehicle before fleeing the city, according to court documents.

Lavell Shamar McCulley, 19, of St. Louis on Wednesday, Aug. 13, was charged with first-degree assault, a class B felony; first-degree burglary, a class B felony; unlawful use of a weapon for shooting at a person or vehicle, a class B felony; two counts of unlawful use of a weapon for displaying a gun, both class E felonies; and two counts of armed criminal action, both unclassified felonies, court records show.

As of today, Aug. 15, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court documents said.

According to the case’s probable-cause statement, McCulley on Tuesday, Aug. 12, drove to an Arnold home and refused to leave after a woman asked him to multiple times. He allegedly forced his way into the house and pointed a gun at the woman and an infant child.

He then walked through the home looking for another woman, going into the basement where he allegedly pointed the gun around with his finger on the trigger. The woman he was looking for told Arnold Police she was hiding because McCulley had previously threatened to kill her, the report said.

McCulley did not find the woman in the home, and he was leaving in a 2003 Cadillac Seville, when another man drove to the home in a 2014 Chrysler 300 and pulled into the driveway. McCulley used the car he was driving to block the Chrysler in the driveway, according to the report.

McCulley allegedly pointed the gun at the man through the Chrysler’s window. The man attempted to back out of the driveway, but he ran into the Cadillac, the report said.

McCulley then allegedly shot at the Chrysler, striking the rear driver’s side door. He then fled the area, according to the report.

McCulley was arrested later that day by the St. Louis Police. He was driving the Cadillac that he had driven to the Arnold home, the report said.

Arnold Police also reported McCulley was arrested on Feb. 16 for suspicion of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. No charges for those two alleged crimes were found in court records.

A class B felony is punishable by five to 15 years in prison, and a class E felony carries a penalty of up to four years in prison. The armed criminal action charges are each punishable by three to 15 years in prison.
