A 50-year-old Imperial man allegedly admitted to running into and damaging a fence at a storage facility. A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy located that man at an Imperial home after searching for a car that was seen on surveillance video slamming into the fence, authorities reported.
Deputies were called to Aloha Storage, 4095 Country Club Drive, in Imperial after the accident. Video surveillance allegedly showed a 2011 Toyota Prius hitting the fence after the car veered off the road while heading toward Old Hwy. 21, the report said.
A deputy searched the area for the car and found the Prius parked outside a home in the 4000 block of Hawthorne Drive in Imperial. The Prius’ front bumper and quarter panel were damaged, and the paint that matched the color of the fence was found on the car, according to the report.
The man allegedly told the deputy he was not paying attention while driving and hit the fence, the report said.
The man was released at his home, and the Sheriff’s Office will seek a charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for leaving the scene of an accident, Capt. Matt Moore said.
