Ron P. Catlett, 40, of Imperial has been accused of riding a motorcycle that had been reported stolen in 2021. He also was riding the motorcycle while his license was revoked, according to court records.
He has been charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison; and driving with a revoked license, a class D misdemeanor that carries a penalty of a fine of up to $500, court documents said.
As of Nov. 15, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 9, court records show.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Dec. 20, 2024, saw Catlett riding the motorcycle on Country Club Drive in Imperial. The deputy stopped Catlett because the motorcycle was improperly licensed, according to the case’s probable-cause statement.
The motorcycle was missing its ignition and vehicle identification number plates. The deputy arrested Catlett for tampering and driving with a revoked license, the report said.
Catlett allegedly told the deputy the motorcycle did not have an ignition and was disassembled when he purchased it. He also said he knew the VIN plate was missing, but the VIN was stamped on the motorcycle, according to the report.
The deputy inspected the motorcycle again and allegedly found the stamped VIN number after removing black spray paint from the neck of the motorcycle. The deputy learned the Shrewsberry Police reported the motorcycle was stolen in 2021, the report said.
Catlett was arrested Nov. 13, according to jail records.
