Authorities believe the same man, who has been dubbed the “I-55 Bandit,” may be responsible for the recent bank robberies in Arnold and Crystal City, as well as ones in Cape Girardeau and Edwardsville, Ill., says Rebecca Wu, spokeswoman for the FBI office in St. Louis.
In all four bank robberies, the man “used a demand note and did not show a weapon but implied he was armed,” the FBI reported in a July 11 written statement.
The man is white and appears to be between 18 and 25 years old and 6-foot to 6-foot-3-inches tall with a thin build. Also, he has short brown hair, the FBI reported.
No arrests had been made as of today (July 12), Wu said.
The Commerce Bank, 965 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold was robbed about noon July 2, and the U.S. Bank, 550 Bailey Road, in Crystal City was robbed around 12:15 p.m. May 15.
First State Community Bank, 1602 N. Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau, was robbed about 2:30 p.m. May 21, and Scott Credit Union, 1067 S. Hwy. 157, Edwardsville, was robbed around 2:10 p.m. May 6.
Authorities have not released the amount of money stolen at the banks.
The FBI urges anyone with information about the robberies to call the St. Louis office at 314-589-2500.
