Joshua M. Simmons, 36, of House Springs was recently arrested on charges for tampering with a motor vehicle and drug possession. He was allegedly seen last year driving a stolen pickup and was found with a substance that tested positive as methamphetamine, according to court documents.
Simmons was arrested on June 4, and as of June 9, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court and jail records show.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on April 8 charged Simmons with felony counts of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, court documents said.
According to a probable-cause statement filed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, a woman told authorities on Sept. 11, 2025, that she saw Simmons driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota that she had reported stolen at the ZX gas station, 2854 Hwy. 67, southwest of Festus.
Deputies went to the gas station, where they watched surveillance video that allegedly showed Simmons driving the pickup. The deputies then found the pickup near the gas station, the report said.
Simmons was sitting in the passenger’s seat when the Dakota was located. After he was arrested, a deputy allegedly found a crystal-like substance in Simmons’ pocket, according to the report.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol tested the substance, and on Jan. 6, the Highway Patrol lab reported the substance tested positive as meth, the report said.
Simmons is a prior drug offender. He was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance in September 2021 in Texas County, according to court records.
