Hillsboro man allegedly robs Cedar Hill bank

William Balon Jr.

NOON UPDATE: William Balon Jr., 39, who lives north of Hillsboro, has been charged after allegedly robbing a bank in Cedar Hill. He was arrested the day after the robbery at a motel in De Soto, according to court documents.

As of today, May 18, he was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, jail records show.

According to a Facebook post by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Facebook, Balon on May 15 robbed the Enterprise Bank and Trust location, 8475 Local Hillsboro Road, in Cedar Hill. He did not display a weapon, and no one was injured, the post said.

The Sheriff’s Office did not report how much money was taken.

According to the case’s probable-cause statement, Balon was wearing sunglasses, gloves and a hat when he entered the bank, and he had a sling-style backpack under his left arm. He approached a teller, demanded money and put the money in the backpack.

Surveillance video allegedly showed what appeared to be a knife clipped to Balon’s pants pocket. The knife, which was a switchblade, was later recovered by investigators, the report said.

Detectives tracked the vehicle Balon left the bank in to one of his properties. In the vehicle, detectives saw some clothing that appeared to be what Balon was wearing during the robbery, according to the report.

Investigators learned Balon was staying at a motel in De Soto, and they arrested him on May 16 without incident, the report said.

In the motel room, detectives allegedly found the backpack that was seen in surveillance video from the bank. They found a handgun and money in the bag, according to the report.

Detectives also allegedly found more clothing Balon was seen wearing in the surveillance video and a substance suspected to be methamphetamine in the motel room, the report said.

The probable-cause statement said there were hair clippers and razors in the motel room, and investigators found freshly cut facial hair in the bathroom.

Balon allegedly had a family member rent the room, and he used a false name when he checked in at the motel, according to the report.
