A recent high-speed chase that began in Byrnes Mill ended in High Ridge, where a motorcycle left the road and struck a house in the 3200 block of Rock Creek Road. The chase began at 8:05 p.m. July 8 when a Byrnes Mill Police officer near the intersection of highways MM and W saw an eastbound motorcycle traveling very fast on Hwy. 30, Police Chief Gary Dougherty said.
“Officer Kevin Schroeder had a motorcycle pass him at a very high rate of speed,” Dougherty wrote in an email. “He activated his light and siren to attempt to stop the motorcycle, which was traveling an estimated speed in excess of 100 mph. The vehicle turned onto Rock Creek and a short distance later left the roadway and struck a home.”
The driver was not seriously injured.
“The officer found the man laying in the yard,” Dougherty said. “He said he was all right but he was checked out by North Jefferson County Ambulance.”
There were no other injuries, Dougherty said.
The Yamaha motorcycle he was riding was damaged, and while the outside of the frame home did not show any damage, the homeowner said some contents in the home were broken when the impact of the motorcycle knocked items off a wall, Dougherty said.
The cyclist, a 40-year-old man from St. Louis County, was arrested and received a number of citations, including failure to stop at a red light, failure to maintain a single lane, careless and imprudent driving, speeding, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and improper display of license plates.
