Grandview R-2 School District students are back in their classrooms after a brief lockdown this morning, April 4.
District officials called for the lockdown after a high school student discovered an alleged handwritten threat on a bathroom stall in the district’s high school. High school students were moved to another building on the campus as investigators searched for any potential threats.
“After a thorough sweep of the high school by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, it has been determined safe for students to return to class,” the school district posted on its Facebook page at 12:40 p.m. “A big thank you to our SRO, Deputy (Thomas) Smogorzewski, and the responding officers for their quick and thorough response. We also commend the student who saw and reported the message to school administration, which promptly involved Officer Smoke.
“It’s reassuring to see our policies and procedures working effectively, with swift action from law enforcement, to minimize the impact on student learning while prioritizing the safety of students and staff.”

The Grandview R-2 School District campus is on lockdown as of noon today, April 4, following the discovery of an alleged handwritten threat on a bathroom stall in the district’s high school.
Undersheriff Tim Whitney with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said district officials moved the high school students to another building on campus while the note is being investigated.
“This morning, a student discovered a threat to the school in a bathroom stall, and that was relayed to the administration, and they made the decision to begin (lockdown),” Whitney said. “We have people now on the scene investigating the threat itself and looking into it for the safety of the students.”
The school district posted an alert on its Facebook page at 11:19 a.m. sharing information with parents and guardians of students in the district to “hopefully lessen apprehension.”
“In order to make sure staff and students are completely safe, everyone was relocated elsewhere on campus, and we are on a lockdown at this point,” the post said. “As a result, only school personnel and emergency services will be allowed access until local law enforcement are finished with their safety sweep.
“Any further information will be shared as soon as it is discovered.”
