A fire damaged a business off Hwy. V east of Valles Mines on Wednesday morning, Nov. 20. No injuries were reported, according to De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald.
He said firefighters were dispatched to check for smoke around the 5500 block of Seven Springs Drive, and firefighters found a 30-by-30-foot garage with heavy smoke coming from it. The garage housed a small manufacturing business called LiveScanner.
“The business suffered considerable heat and smoke damage,” Fitzgerald said. “The fire destroyed the office/shipping area with some fire damage in the supply area.”
As of Nov. 21, the cause of the fire was unknown but not believed to be suspicious, he said.
The Hematite, Big River and Jefferson R-7 fire protection districts, the Festus and De Soto fire departments and Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District responded to the scene.
