Two men and two women were arrested for allegedly trying to steal two shopping carts full of items from the Kohl’s store in Arnold. The merchandise was worth more than $7,000, Arnold Police reported.
At about 3:45 p.m. June 5, an employee from the store, 2150 Michigan Ave., called police to report the incident. When police arrived, they saw the two women walk to a car, but before getting inside, one of them opened the trunk, the report said.
Then, police saw the two men walk out of the store pushing the two carts toward the car. However, when they saw the police, the men allegedly ran away, according to the report.
Officers chased them and arrested the two men – one 44 of De Soto and the other 45 of St. Louis. Police also arrested the women in the car – one 26 of De Soto and the other 35 of St. Louis, according to the report.
Police searched the four and allegedly found a substance believed to be fentanyl in the St. Louis man’s pocket, as well as in the St. Louis woman’s purse. Police also allegedly found a gun in the woman’s purse, the report said.
The four were taken to the Police Station, where they were booked and released pending applications for warrants. Cpl. Brett Ackermann said police will seek charges against all four through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Charges to be sought include felony resisting arrest, felony stealing and possession of a controlled substance against the St. Louis man; felony resisting arrest and felony stealing against the De Soto man; felony resisting arrest, felony stealing, unlawful use of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance against the St. Louis woman; and felony stealing against the De Soto woman, Ackermann said.
