Imperial woman allegedly assaults man driving SUV

Abigail Thomas

Abigail Thomas, 34, of Imperial was recently arrested after being charged for allegedly attacking a man while he was driving an SUV.

Thomas and the man had been in a relationship, and he was helping her move her belongings out of a home that they had shared, according to court documents.

Thomas was arrested Nov. 24 on a charge for third-degree domestic assault, a class E felony punishable by up to four years in prison. The charge was filed Oct. 2, court records said.

As of Nov. 26, Thomas was being held on $10,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, according to jail records.

According to the case’s probable-cause statement, the man said Thomas “freaked out” while he was driving a 2010 Nissan Murano, and started hitting him and grabbing the steering wheel. He said Thomas punched him in the face and bit his right arm.

A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy wrote the man had bruises on his face and a bite mark on his arm. The deputy arrested Thomas, who refused to provide a written statement, the report said.

Thomas was on probation at the time of the alleged assault. In May 2023, she had pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree burglary and second-degree property damage, court records show.

The judge suspended the imposition of sentences in that case, and Thomas was placed on five years’ probation for the felony burglary charge and two years’ probation for the misdemeanor property damage charge, according to court documents.

According to that case’s probable-cause statement, Thomas entered a man’s home and smashed a television and lamp. The man told Sheriff’s Office deputies that he did not know Thomas and she had never been in his home before.

The estimated value of the broken television and lamp was $500, the report said.
