Northbound I-55 in Festus was shut down for about two hours on Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, following a two-vehicle crash in the construction zone, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Sgt. Dallas Thompson, a highway patrol spokesperson, said troopers were dispatched at 5:10 p.m. to the crash, which involved a tractor-trailer and a Chevrolet Equinox SUV on the interstate at Hwy. A. He did not have details about how the crash occurred.

Thompson said he didn’t believe anyone was injured in the crash.

“Traffic was diverted onto (Hwy.) 61-67,” he said. “About 7 p.m. our troopers returned to service, and the construction company kept one lane closed while they cleared up debris.”

The construction is part of an estimated $246 million I-55 Corridor Improvements project that runs from just north of Pevely to just south of Festus. The project is set to wrap up next December.

The purpose of the overall project is to address traffic and safety concerns along the I-55 corridor and account for future development and growth patterns in the region, according to the MoDOT website.
