Cedar Hill native Nicholas Burton Reimler, 29, has been sentenced to three years’ probation for his role in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, according to court documents.
Reimler, who now lives in Valley Park, was sentenced Dec. 10 by U.S. District Judge Randolph D. Moss to two months of home detention as part of his probation, as well as 60 hours of community service. He also was ordered to pay $500 of restitution to be used to help repair the nearly $1.5 million in damage at the Capitol, court records show.
Reimler pleaded guilty Sept. 17 to violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds in the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia. As part of his plea, other misdemeanor charges that had been filed against him on Feb. 19 were dismissed, according to court papers.
Reimler’s posts on social media platforms helped federal officers discover his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. He also was recorded on surveillance video inside the Capitol, according to the charging documents.
In addition, friends alerted authorities to Reimler's posts on Snapchat and Facebook about the riot, and they identified Reimler in photos the FBI released showing people inside the Capitol, according to the documents.
He could be seen in surveillance video entering and leaving the Capitol wearing a green hat, a blue and white jacket and a white flag with the word “TRUMP” on it while holding up a cell phone. Investigators found pictures on Reimler’s Facebook page of him wearing the same jacket and hat, the report said.
Reimler’s Snapchat account also had photos showing the inside of the Capitol with rioters in the hallways with text that read, “TOP OF THE US CAPITOL DOME,” and, “Lol what’s going on,” according to the charging documents.
Reimler’s Facebook page had messages posted before Jan. 6 supporting former President Donald Trump, as well as ones critical of President Joe Biden and other Democrats.
On Dec. 30, 2020, Reimler reposted a tweet from Trump that said, “JANUARY SIXTH, SEE YOU IN DC!” In the comments on that post, Reimler said he was driving to Washington, D.C., with two guys from work.
Reimler’s Facebook profile says he is a technical services manager, and that he studied civil and environmental engineering at the University of Missouri in Columbia. The profile also says he attended Northwest High School.
Reimler was listed as living in Cedar Hill in his only other public court record in Missouri, which was related to a Dec. 21, 2014, DWI charge after he reportedly was caught speeding on I-55 in Jefferson County, according to court records.
