Police are investigating the theft of firearms from vehicles parked outside two Festus homes. One theft was from an SUV parked on American Legion Drive and the other was from a vehicle parked on Rock Creek Court, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis.

A 66-year-old woman reported that a pistol was from her 2018 Nissan Pathfinder parked at her home on American Legion Drive.

“She said her car was broken into and her pistol was stolen,” Lewis said. “The car was unlocked. Video footage indicates the pistol was stolen about 9:45 p.m. Aug. 14. There also was electrical equipment stolen.”

He said the pistol was valued at $400, while the electrical equipment was worth about $25.

A second firearm also was reported stolen Aug. 15, Lewis said.

“At 2:30 p.m., a 65-year-old man who lives on Rock Creek Court reported his pistol was stolen from his vehicle. We’re not sure exactly when it was stolen. He last saw it Aug. 10. We’re assuming the vehicle was unlocked. There was no damage to the vehicle.”

Lewis said he didn’t have information about the kind of vehicle the gun was stolen from on Rock Creek Court. He also did not have an estimated value for that pistol.

As of Aug. 25, neither of the guns had been recovered and no suspects had been identified, Lewis said. Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
