A blaze destroyed a nine-car detached garage Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 31, at a home in the 8500 block of Patterson Road west of Pevely. No one was injured, Dunklin Fire Protection District Chief Brad Williams said.
He said the fire occurred at about noon.
“When we got there, it was well involved,” Williams said. “The homeowner was at home at the time. He had been working on a vehicle outside of the garage. We believe that’s where the fire started. It was a complete loss. There were no vehicles in the garage.”
He said that while the garage was lost, firefighters worked to keep the flames away from the nearby house.
“There was some damage to the outside of the home,” Williams said. “Crews worked to protect the home from further damage. We were there about two hours.”
He said the fire was not considered suspicious.
“I would call it accidental,” he said.
Williams said the Festus and Herculaneum fire departments and the Antonia, Jefferson R-7, Mapaville, Hillsboro, Goldman, De Soto Rural and Rock Community fire protection districts helped with the call. The Crystal City Fire Department moved up to the Dunklin fire station to cover its calls. The Joachim-Protection Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
Williams said his district needed the help because the fire was in a spot lacking water.
“There’s no water supply in that area,” he said. “We went to a second alarm for more water and manpower.”
