A recent fire damaged two home in the 5400 block of Nantucket Court in High Ridge and killed a family pet, said Fire Chief John Barton of the High Ridge Fire Protection District.
He said firefighters arrived at the home at 1:13 a.m. March 3 and found significant fire on one side of the home. A neighboring home’s back deck and siding also were burning, he said.
“The home was occupied by two adults, a child, a dog and a cat,” Barton said. “The residents made it out safely and were able to get their dog out, but unfortunately, the cat was found deceased.”
Barton said the fire at the neighboring home was quickly extinguished, so there was no damage to its interior.
“The home with the most fire damage is considered uninhabitable, and the Red Cross assisted the family,” he said. “The fire was investigated by our fire marshal, and the official cause is ruled as undetermined but not suspicious.”
The Fenton Fire Protection District, North Jefferson County Ambulance District and Jefferson County 911 assisted at the scene, Barton said.
