A 54-year-old Pevely woman was arrested Monday morning, April 20, for allegedly breaking into and stealing food from a building at the Jefferson County Rescue Mission the night before.
Pevely Police Chief Jamie Mayberry said officers responded to a call at about 8 a.m. to the mission, 8943 Commercial Blvd. (Hwy. 61-67).
As of today, April 22, the woman had not been charged but was being held at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro on an outstanding warrant involving a separate incident.
“We were contacted in reference to a burglary,” Mayberry said. “Officers located a busted window at a detached building. They also found blood and a cell phone left behind by the suspect. Surveillance video was reviewed by the detective and the suspect was identified.”
The surveillance video showed that the break-in occurred about 10:55 p.m. April 19, he said.
He said police took the woman into custody about 10 a.m. at her home.
Mayberry said his department is seeking burglary, stealing and property damages charges against the woman.
He said the value of the food stolen was undetermined, but the property damages costs are estimated at about $1,000.
