A woman was taken to a medical facility for evaluation after leading police to believe she had been assaulted by a man with a firearm, Festus Police Capt. Lewis Pippin said.
He said officers responded at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, to the area of South Mill Street and American Legion Drive for a woman in her mid-30s who reported being assaulted.
“Officers established a perimeter to search for the suspect,” Pippin said. “Crystal City Police Department assisted us. Multiple officers from both agencies did saturate the area when initially looking for the alleged suspect.”
Officers determined the claims were false and that the female was experiencing a mental health crisis, he said.
“There was no public threat,” Pippin said. “The female was safely transported to a medical facility for evaluation and care.”
No injuries were reported.
