Festus Police arrested a 51-year-old woman for allegedly firing at least one shot in the air when the father of her grandchild showed up at her home to pick up his child. The man was not injured, and it was not clear where the bullet or bullets ended up, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.

He said the incident occurred about 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in the 300 block of Walnut Street.

“The victim, a man, had evidently been picking up his child from the grandmother’s house. He identified the shooter as the grandmother,” Lewis said. “We don’t know if anything was hit.

“Officers found some shells and the suspect admitted she fired one shot. She was arrested, and charges are pending.”

Lewis said a .22 pistol was taken from the suspect.

“What’s disturbing is there were several other children in the house,” he said.

Lewis said he had no information about the alleged victim’s age or town of residence or about the nature of the dispute between him and the grandmother of his child.
