Eureka Police arrested a 48-year-old Webster Groves man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The man was stopped because the car he was driving had expired license plates, police reported.
Eureka Police saw the man driving a 2003 Lexus about 12:50 a.m. Jan. 17 south on Central Avenue, and the officers stopped the man at the Circle K gas station, 100 Old Town Drive, the report said.
The man allegedly showed signs of impairment, and he struggled to find his driver’s license, while either ignoring or failing to hear questions from the officers. The man allegedly provided the officers with an expired license plate, according to the report.
The man told the officers he had not drank alcohol that night, but when officers checked his eyes, one of the field sobriety tests, the man allegedly showed signs of impairment. The man refused to perform additional field tests, and he was arrested for suspicion of DWI, the report said.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, according to the report.
The man was issued summonses to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI, driving with expired license plates, driving without a valid license and driving without insurance, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
