Eureka Police patch

Eureka Police arrested a 35-year-old Valley Park man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he allegedly registered a .179 percent blood-alcohol content, more than twice the legal limit, Eureka Police reported. In Missouri, .08 percent is the legal limit.

At about 3 a.m. April 16, an officer reportedly saw the man driving a 2017 Volkswagen Passat at a high rate of speed and continuously switching between two lanes without using a turn signal on westbound I-44 just past Lewis Road. The officer turned on his cruiser’s lights and sirens to stop the car, and the man continued to drive west on the interstate and got off at the Hwy. 109 exit in Eureka and then turned onto East Fifth Street and pulled over to the side of the road, the report said.

The officer reported smelling alcohol when he approached the driver. The officer also said he saw two open 12-packs of beer and two beer cans in the car, according to the report.

The driver reportedly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver. Eureka Police issued summonses to the man to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for DWI, improper lane use, failure to register a motor vehicle and not having inspection papers, Lt. Michael Werges said.
