Eureka Police arrested a 52-year-old St. Louis man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Officers had received reports that the man was driving erratically and stopped him after he allegedly made an illegal turn from Hwy. 109 onto the I-44 entrance ramp, police reported.
Officers were at the Schnucks grocery store, 245 E. Fifth St., when at about 7 p.m. Aug. 9 they received reports of a man driving a 2012 Jeep Wrangler erratically in the area. The officers saw the man pull into the parking lot, stop and then leave the lot, the report said.
Officers followed the man onto Hwy. 109, and they stopped the man when he allegedly turned onto the interstate’s entrance ramp without using a turn signal, according to the report.
The man told the officers he was driving home from a pool party in Franklin County. He allegedly told officers he drank alcohol before driving, the report said.
The man refused to get out of the Jeep, and an officer physically removed the man and arrested him. The officer then allegedly found a bottle of Jim Bean bourbon in the Jeep, according to the report.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, the report said.
The man was issued summonses to appear in Eureka Municipal Court of alleged DWI and failure to use a turn signal, Lt. Brett Grittini said.
