A 45-year-old Eureka man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Eureka Police are seeking a charge of persistent driving while intoxicated against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office because he had at least two prior DWI arrests, Capt. Michael Werges said.

A Eureka Police officer arrested the man at about 11:30 p.m. May 15 after allegedly seeing a 2015 Nissan Altima weaving on Meramec Boulevard. The car nearly struck the road’s curb before the officer stopped the driver near Edward Drive, the report said.

The driver allegedly refused to perform field sobriety tests. However, the officer arrested the man because he allegedly smelled alcohol and the man had trouble standing on his own, according to the report.

The man was taken to the Police Station before being transported to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton for a blood test after Eureka Police received a search warrant. Following the test, the man was taken to the Police Station, where he was released to a sober driver, the report said.

Eureka Police also issued the man a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for improper lane use, Werges said.
