A 39-year-old Eureka man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he allegedly failed to stop when a police officer tried to pull over the pickup he was driving, Eureka Police reported.
At about 11:20 p.m. Aug. 7, an officer reportedly saw the man driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado that ran off the side of Hwy. 109 and scraped a concrete wall. The man allegedly continued north on the highway, and the officer turned on his cruiser lights and siren, but the man continued driving north, the report said.
The man turned onto Eureka Road then Augustine Road and then Forest Hills Drive while the officer followed the pickup with the cruiser lights on. The officer turned off his siren but continued to run it in short bursts to try to get the pickup to stop, according to the report.
Eventually, the suspect stopped in front of a home on Forest Hills Drive and got out of the pickup despite the officer telling him to stay inside the truck. The man allegedly stumbled towards the house, and the officer arrested him, Eureka Police reported.
The officer also allegedly found a pipe with residue and smelled burnt marijuana in the pickup, the report said.
The officer took the man to the Ellisville Police Station because the Eureka Police Department’s breath test was not working, and the man reportedly fell asleep in the cruiser. In Ellisville, the man allegedly refused to take a breath test, and he was then taken to the Eureka Police Station, according to the report.
He was booked and released to a sober driver after Eureka Police issued him summonses to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for failing to yield to a police vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and DWI, Lt. Michael Werges said.
