A 23-year-old Eureka mas was arrested after police allegedly found illegal drugs in a car he was driving. A Eureka Police officer allegedly found about 300 grams of a substance believed to be marijuana, 71 THC vapor cartridges, THC wax, 20 unidentified pills and a scale in the 2002 Toyota MR2, authorities reported.

An officer stopped the car at about 10:05 p.m. Sept. 15 on Hwy. 109 near Augustine Road because the license plate on it was expired. After stopping the car, the officer smelled marijuana and asked the driver if there were any illegal substances in the vehicle, according to the report.

The driver reportedly told the officer he had recently smoked marijuana, adding that nothing illegal was in the car. However, a second officer arrived and allegedly saw a bag that appeared to contain marijuana behind the driver’s seat, Eureka Police reported.

The police asked the man to remove the bag from the car, and he allegedly pulled out two large bags containing marijuana. The officers then searched the car and allegedly found the vapor cartridges, wax, pills and scale, the report said.

The man reportedly told the officer he had started selling drugs to earn money so he could afford to move out of his parents’ home. He was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants, according to the reports.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and possession with the intent to distribute drugs, Lt. Michael Tapp said.

He also said the man was issued a citation to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for driving with an expired license plate.
