A 41-year-old De Soto woman died Monday night (Jan. 7) after she was found in Spross Park with a gunshot wound to her head, De Soto Police reported.
Chief Jeff McCreary said today (Jan. 8) that De Soto Police will not release the woman’s name until an investigation is concluded.
Police went to the park, which is near Amvets and Concord drives, after receiving a call at 6:12 p.m. about a woman found there who was shot in the head, McCreary said.
When officers arrived at 6:17 p.m., they found the woman and a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol. Today, McCreary said the gunshot appeared to be self-inflicted, but it had not been determined whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.
“We would not be able to confirm that until we finish the investigation,” McCreary said.
The woman was taken by Valle Ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, where she died, a hospital spokeswoman said.
McCreary said the shooting was an isolated incident.
“Nobody was on the run,” McCreary said. “No one was in any danger in the city.”
