De Soto Rural responds to four fires

A fire damages a mobile home in Fletcher.

The De Soto Rural Fire Protection District has been busy with four fires since the first of the year.

The first was a mobile home fire Jan. 3 in Fletcher, said De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald.

Firefighters were dispatched at 11:08 a.m. to the 12000 block of Nickelson Road near the Washington County line. Firefighters located a fire in the attic space of the mobile home above the kitchen, he said.

Fitzgerald said no injuries were reported. He said two adults were displaced from the home until repairs could be made.

The De Soto Fire Department and Hillsboro and Cedar Hill fire protection districts assisted with the fire. The Valle Ambulance District also responded to the fire. The Jefferson R-7, Hematite and St. Clair fire protection districts assisted with other calls.

De Soto Rural firefighters were dispatched to two fires on Jan. 5.

The first was a kitchen fire at 4:50 p.m. in the 12000 block of Canaan Road near Hwy. 110 north of De Soto.

Fitzgerald said the fire was contained to the kitchen with smoke damage throughout the house. He said one resident was treated at the scene by Valle Ambulance District for a burned hand. No other injuries were reported.

Firefighters remained on the scene for an hour. The De Soto Fire Department and Hematite and Hillsboro fire protection districts assisted with the fire. The Festus Fire Department and St. Clair and Jefferson R-7 fire protection districts assisted with other calls.

Firefighters then were called to a shed fire at 6:45 p.m. in the 13000 block of Bader Road off Flucom Road. Fitzgerald said the shed fire extended to outside storage and brush. No injuries were reported.

The De Soto Fire Department and Hillsboro and Hematite fire protection districts assisted with the fire. The Valle Ambulance District also responded to the scene.

Firefighters responded to a flue fire at 10:32 a.m. Jan. 6 in the 12000 block of Whippoorwill Drive off Hwy. Y northeast of De Soto. Fitzgerald said damage was limited to the ceiling and floor space from an overheated chimney pipe. No injuries were reported.

The De Soto Fire Department and Hillsboro Fire Protection District assisted with the fire.
