Arnold woman charged with alleged chronic DWI

Crystal Young

Crystal Lynn Young, 46, of Arnold has been charged with chronic driving while intoxicated. She has pleaded guilty to at least three other DWI charges since 2012, according to court documents.

Young was arrested on Aug. 10, and as of Monday, she was being held on a $25,000 cash-only bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, court records show.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on July 1 charged Young with chronic DWI, a class C felony punishable by three to 10 years in prison; and driving with a revoked license, a class E felony that carries a penalty of up to four years in prison, court documents said.

Due to her previous guilty pleas, Young is required to serve a minimum of two years in prison before being eligible for parole, the assistant prosecuting attorney Kara Riffe wrote in court papers.

A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Jan. 26 arrested Young at a gas station in the 2200 block of Old Hwy. 21 in Imperial. The deputy went to the gas station after Young drove there in a 2017 Toyota Prius, which had extensive damage on its passenger’s side, the case’s probable-cause statement said.

Young allegedly told the deputy she had driven off the road, causing damage to car. The deputy also allegedly saw numerous empty whiskey bottles inside the Prius, the report said.

Young allegedly admitted to drinking whiskey. She also failed field sobriety tests, according to the report.

In July 2012, Young pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree assault due to DWI that resulted in an injury. She was placed on five years’ probation after completing a treatment program, court records show.

In January 2013, she pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of drugs, and she was sentenced to 150 days in jail, according to court documents.

In June 2018, she pleaded guilty to persistent DWI, driving with a revoked license and leaving the scene of an accident. She was placed on five years’ probation again after completing a treatment program, court records said.
