Control systems worth more than $2,000 were stolen from a recreation vehicle left at a Eureka business for repairs. The navigation system, temperature control system and a touchpad panel were stolen from the 2020 Windsport 35-meter Seville RV, Eureka Police Lt. Michael Werges said.

A 41-year-old St. Clair man who owns the RV had left it at Byerly RV, 295 E. Fifth St., in Eureka on March 5 for repairs. A month later, at about 8:30 a.m. April 5, a manager noticed an exterior storage panel and entry door to the RV was open, police reported.

An officer inspected the RV and found control systems had been removed from the dashboard. It looked like wires had been cut to remove the equipment. The officer also found a hole in the kitchen wall and an exposed orange wire that appeared to be cut so someone could remove a touchpad control panel, the report said.

It appeared the front door to the RV was pried open, and the RV was ransacked. The stolen items and cost to repair the damage to the door was estimated at about $2,200, according to the report.

Eureka Police said surveillance video showed two people walking across the rear lot of the business at about 6:10 a.m. April 4. However, the video did not show if the people got into the RV on the lot, the report said.

As of Monday, none of the stolen items had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
