Cedar Hill firefighters located and rescued a man who got trapped under debris when an out building on property he owns in the 6200 block of Ruble Lane collapsed this morning, June 6. The man was transported by Big River Ambulance to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis with multiple, moderate injuries, Chief Mick Fischer reported.
At about 9:55 a.m., the victim used a cell phone to call 911 from under the rubble in the building, Fischer said.
“It’s a small, detached garage or shed,” he said. “The gentleman who owns the property is demolishing buildings on the property. He was inside the shed working on demolishing it and the roof came down on him.”
Fischer did not have the victim’s name but believes he is in his 50s and lives nearby.
“It took us about 10 minutes to get him out,” Fischer said. “Crews used air bags and hydraulic tools to lift up the roof, locate him and get him out.”
He said Big River Ambulance initially planned to take the victim to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, but the ambulance was rerouted to Barnes-Jewish while on route.
The High Ridge Fire Protection District, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Big River Ambulance also responded to the scene, Fischer said.
