A burglary in an upscale Pevely subdivision Monday netted the thieves merchandise valued between $3,000 and $5,000, police reported.
Pevely Police Chief Ron Weeks said the break-in occurred between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at a home in the first block of Christina Drive in the Tiara at the Abbey subdivision.
He said the thief or thieves broke open the front door, then took four televisions, some jewelry and undetermined contents of a safe where a key had been left in its door.
“We believe it was somebody who was familiar with the residence,” Weeks said. “They must have some kind of knowledge because no one was there when they came in.”
Weeks said there have not been any recent burglaries reported in the subdivision. The homes are fairly close to one another, but no one witnessed anything, he said.
“It seems like it would have taken some time,” he said. “There may be more than one individual involved in this.”
