William D. Blum, 50, of De Soto, a chronic offender, was sentenced to 10 years in prison following several felony convictions for driving while intoxicated, as well as a probation violation, according to court records.
On June 26, after Blum admitted to violating probation he was serving tied to a DWI conviction, Jefferson County Div. 4 Circuit Judge Mark T. Stoll executed Blum’s previous 10-year sentence, court documents indicate.
That sentence stemmed from an incident in March 2012 when Blum was pulled over at Hwy. 110 and Athena School Road near Olympian Village and failed a field sobriety test, a probable-cause statement said.
He pleaded guilty to the DWI, and in June 2014, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. However, Blum was released early, in November 2016, after completing a treatment program and placed on five years’ probation, court papers show.
Since he violated the probation, Stoll executed the 10-year sentence in June.
Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Thomas E. Hollingsworth handled the case.
Blum had three prior felony convictions.
He pleaded guilty to felony second-degree assault for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and injuring someone in a September 2002 incident in St. Francois County. He was sentenced in November 2004 to three years in prison for that offense, but he was released in March 2005 after completing a treatment program, the sentence was suspended and he got five years’ probation, the report said.
Blum also pleaded guilty to felony DWI – persistent offender connected to a February 2007 incident in Jefferson County and was sentenced in November 2008 to four years in prison. However, he was released in January 2010 after completing a treatment program, the sentence was suspended and he got two years’ probation, according to the report.
In addition, Blum pleaded guilty to felony DWI – chronic offender stemming from a January 2014 in St. Louis County. He was sentenced in December 2014 to 10 years in prison, but he was released in December 2016 after completing a treatment program, the sentence was suspended and he got four years’ probation, the report said.
Blum currently is in the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.
