Christopher R. Sokolic Jr., 27, of Barnhart has been charged with murder for allegedly killing a man and leaving him in a field in the 1500 block of East Marriott Street in Barnhart, officials reported.
The victim was Zachary C. Tripp, 40, of Festus. His body was found in the field at about 1 p.m. Monday (May 25), said Capt. Gary Higginbotham of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Higginbotham also is a member of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, which was called in to investigate the alleged murder, and Sokolic was taken into custody at about 1:15 a.m. this morning (May 26), Sheriff Dave Marshak reported.
Sokolic was charged today with one count of first-degree murder, a class A felony punishable by death or life in prison without the possibility of parole, as well as one count of armed criminal action, which carries a penalty of at least three years in prison.
Sokolic was being held this evening in the Jefferson County Jail on no bond.
