A 33-year-old Barnhart man was arrested after police allegedly found heroin and methamphetamine in an SUV he was driving. The arrest happened at about 7 p.m. June 22 during a traffic stop, Arnold Police reported.
An officer pulled over a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer after the driver allegedly sped out of the parking lot at Walmart, 2201 Michigan Ave., and turned onto Water Tower Place without using a turn signal. Also, when the officer checked the license plate on the SUV, it came back registered to a car, the report said.
The SUV was stopped in the 1200 block of Water Tower Place, and the man didn’t have a driver’s license and instead showed the officer a state ID card. The driver reportedly had previous drug arrests, so an Arnold Police dog was brought to the scene and alerted officers that drugs could be in the SUV. Officers searched the Blazer and allegedly found a bag in a compartment in the driver-side door that contained substances believed to be heroin and meth, along with drug paraphernalia, according to the report.
The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending application for warrants. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, along with driving with a revoked license, Capt. Rich Shular said.
