The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of a bag of money from Festus Fuel Line Food Mart, 2591 Hwy. 61, south of Festus. The incident occurred about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 31, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Authorities believe a man and woman, both in their 20s, left the store with the leather, zipper-style money bag after the woman leaned over the counter, where the bag was stored, and put it in her purse. Both suspects are white, and the woman was described as approximately 5-foot-8-inches tall and weighting 160 pounds, the report said.

The cashier said the suspects left in a red, late-‘90s model Ford F-150 pickup with an orange grill. Authorities have not released the amount of money in the bag.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said Sept. 6 that the stolen money had not been recovered and no arrests had been made. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
