rock fire - car hits traffic lights

A car knocked out the traffic lights at Vogel Road and Old Lemay Ferry Road in the Arnold area. The signal was expected to be operational again Tuesday (March 19).

A 29-year-old Arnold man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he crashed a car into the control box for traffic lights at Vogel Road and Old Lemay Ferry Road in the Arnold area. The crash, which occurred about 10:55 p.m. March 10, caused $27,000 in damage to the signal, which did not work properly afterward, authorities reported.

The driver was not injured in the accident, Rock Community Fire Protection District spokesman Ron Harder said.

On March 12, Jefferson County Public Works Director Jason Jonas said the intersection signal was switched to flashing red lights after the control box was damaged.

Today, Jonas said the county’s contracted electrician, Reinhold Electric, poured the new concrete base, and the installation of a new control cabinet from the Missouri Department of Transportation was expected to be completed Tuesday (March 19).

Jonas said the county will seek payment for the $27,000 in repairs through the driver’s insurance company, if he is insured.
