Barbara Jean Coleman, 45, who lives in the Arnold area, allegedly threatened to stab a family member with a knife during an argument at a home just west of Arnold. The family member was able to disarm her and no one was injured, according to court documents.
Coleman was charged Dec. 6 with first-degree assault, a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years in prison; and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony that carries a penalty of three to 15 years in prison, court records show.
Coleman was arrested Dec. 5, and as of Dec. 10, she was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy wrote in the case’s probable-cause statement that Coleman would likely return to the home and attempt to harm the man who she allegedly attacked if she were released from jail.
Coleman and the man were arguing Dec. 5 in the kitchen, when she allegedly grabbed a large knife. When the man tried to leave the room, she raised the knife and appeared to be ready to stab the man, the case’s probable-cause statement said.
The man was able to get the knife away from Coleman and get her out of the house. He then locked the home’s doors so Coleman could not return inside, the report said.
