House Springs man charged with kidnapping, domestic assault

Anthony Hattemar

Anthony Michael Hattemar, 36, of House Springs has been charged with four felonies for allegedly assaulting a woman and forcing her into his vehicle when she tried to get away the following day. The two were involved in a relationship, authorities reported.

Hattemar was arrested on Aug. 1, and as of Monday, Aug. 4, was being held in the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro without bond, court records show.

The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Aug. 1 charged Hattemar with one count of first-degree kidnapping and two counts of first-degree domestic assault, each of the three a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years in prison; and third-degree domestic assault, a class E felony that carries a penalty of up to four years in prison.

Deputies were called to their home on Echo Court in House Springs on July 31 after the woman allegedly tried to run from Hattemar outside a Jefferson County gas station.

The woman told Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies that on July 30 Hattemar took her phone, strangled her at least two times, bit her nose and struck her in the face, according to the probable-cause statement in the case.

The woman said she fell asleep, but the argument continued the next morning, on July 31, and he wouldn’t allow her to leave the bed, the report said.

Later that day the two went to a gas station, and the woman attempted to call 911 from an employee’s phone, but Hattemar allegedly took the phone away. The woman attempted to leave the store in another person’s vehicle but the business’ surveillance video shows Hattemar forcefully put her in the back of his vehicle, according to the report.

The woman said Hattemar allegedly strangled her two more times in the vehicle before they arrived at their home. The deputies entered the home to stop the assault, the report said.

No attorney is listed for Hattemar.
