The Missouri Department of Transportation has scheduled a virtual public hearing for 4-7 p.m. Thursday (July 16) about a planned improvement project at the intersection of Hwy. 21 and Lowry Lane in Hillsboro.

The meeting will be held using WebEx, an online meeting app. No formal presentations will be held during the hearing, but those who participate may get answers to questions about the project. The public may log into the open house-style virtual public hearing anytime during the three-hour period.

Plans for the project call for installing a two-way, left-turn lane and upgrading the existing guardrail to current standards from 2,100 feet north of Lowry Lane to 900 feet south of Lowry Lane, MoDOT reported in a written statement..

“By adding this lane, it will improve safety and reduce the number of crashes, as well as help overall traffic flow,” MoDOT said.

The work is projected to start in the summer of 2021 and finish in the fall of 2021, MoDOT communications specialist Rachel V. Sudduth said.

She said MoDOT selected the particular intersection for improvements after studying the number of crash reports in the area.

Those who would like to comment about the project may complete a form at modot.org/intersection-improvements-route-21-lowry-lane.

A direct link to the “Route 21 Survey” can be found at surveymonkey.com/r/8F9VXHB. The form will be available from now until 4 p.m. July 30.

MoDOT staff will review questions and comments and respond to significant ones, the agency reported.
