Paramedic Mark Hunter of the Rock Township Ambulance District has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant, filling the position Jerry Appleton held until January, when he was promoted to chief of the district. Appleton took over the top job after Margie Sammons suddenly retired on Sept. 30.

Hunter’s promotion was announced at the Rock Township board meeting on Wednesday (March 22), and then a pinning ceremony was held. For the ceremony, Appleton handed Hunter’s new badge to his wife, Sarah, and she pinned it on him. Appleton said the pinning ceremony is an old tradition in the industry but is new to Rock Township.

Appleton also said he’s sure Hunter will do a great job in his new position, which is a “field supervisory role.”

Hunter, who has worked for Rock Township since November 2009, will be paid the same $$63,126 annual salary he was earning as a paramedic but will get an additional $67.76 per week stipend to compensate him for the additional supervisory duties, Appleton said.
