Residents and businesses in the city of Festus remain under a boil order advisory until further notice.
The city was placed under the order around 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, after a water main break on South Mill Avenue.
After many residents suffered a period of low water pressure while the break was being repaired, water pressure returned to normal after the repair was completed around 9 p.m.
However, the advisory remains in effect until the city awaits results of water testing.
The Festus R-6 School District has canceled classes for Monday, Oct. 24, "due to a lack of adequate drinking water for students and staff and for preparing and cleaning up after meals," according to a statement on its website.
The Festus city website refers residents to a Missouri Department of Natural Resources page concerning boil orders: https://dnr.mo.gov/document-search/boil-water-orders-boil-water-advisories-pub2001/pub2001
Information on that site indicates that an analysis of the water may take at least two days.
