Thousands of people turned out to watch the 94th annual De Soto Christmas Parade, held Dec. 3 along Main Street, said Sarah Greenlee of the De Soto Chamber of Commerce, which sponsored the event.

The parade once again provided participants and spectators with nearly an hour of entertainment, she said.

“We had over 150 units – that’s floats, trucks, UTVs, ATVs – plus more than 400 walkers,” Greenlee said. “There were so many entries. It was really a great parade.”

The parade’s theme was “Elf on a Shelf.”

The weather cooperated, Greenlee said.

“We did not get any rain, but it was a chilly night, no doubt,” she said.

She reported that two groups were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the parade.

“Our Magical Creativity Award went to Sunnyhill Independence Center of De Soto,” Greenlee said. “They won a certificate (of recognition) and $50.

“The Holiday Spirit Award went to Gracelife Chapel of De Soto. They also won a certificate and $50.”

She said another standout parade unit did not win an award, but impressed the crowd.

“Bordeau Dance Studio had 100 dancers dressed like elves,” Greenlee said. “They danced the entire length of the parade, which is about a mile-and-a-half route.”

Greenlee said the parade was a success.

“Everything was great,” Greenlee said. “We were really very happy with the turnout.”
