All four lanes of Hwy. 61-67 at Hwy. M in Barnhart are scheduled to be closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, through 5 a.m. Thursday, June 18, as part of work being done there to replace the bridge over Glaize Creek, the Missouri Department of Transportation reports.
The closure could be delayed if weather doesn’t cooperate.
During the closure, motorists are advised to take I-55 to Hwy. Z to get around the area.
After the work requiring the closure is completed, two lanes, a northbound and a southbound one, will be re-opened, MoDOT reported.
For the past several months, only one lane has been open, and traffic lights at each end of the closure have let motorists know when it’s their turn to pass.
The bridge, built in 1935, required a new foundation, new supports and a new driving surface.
The project is scheduled to be complete in October, MoDOT area engineer Judy Wagner has said.
MoDOT awarded a $1,657,858 contract to Gershenson Co. in Eureka to replace the bridge.
