A Pacific woman was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident that occurred early Sunday morning (Nov. 22) at Hwy. O at Hwy. F in the Pacific area of northwest Jefferson County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the woman was driving a 2011 Hyundai Tucson compact sport utility vehicle south on Hwy. F at 2:48 a.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the left side of the road, where the vehicle struck an embankment.
The driver was not hurt in the crash, but two passengers, Kayla Winkelman, 22, of Pacific, and Yusuf Benzabeh, 23, of Villa Ridge, both sustained serious injuries. Winkelman was taken by car and Benzabeh by Meramec Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Washington, the report said.
Updates on their conditions were not available.
The driver was arrested by Highway Patrol officers on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a traffic crash, both felonies, according to the report.
She will not be named unless she is charged with a crime by the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Neither the driver nor the two passengers were wearing seat belts, the report said. The Hyundai was totaled.
