A Fenton man died Dec. 30 in a one-vehicle crash on Mapaville-Hematite Road north of Hematite, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 7:43 p.m., Jeffrey M. Stoppelmann, 52, was driving just north of Debbie Drive in a 1999 Saturn SL 1 when his northbound car traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected, traveled off the left side of the road, struck a fence and a large rock, overturned and struck a tree, the report said.
According to the report, emergency service personnel pronounced Stoppelmann dead on the scene at 7:55 p.m. and his body was taken by Superior Mortuary Service to St. Louis County Morgue.
The report said Stoppelmann was not wearing a seat belt and the Saturn was totaled.
