A 37-year-old St. Louis man was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday night (Sept. 28), one day after he reportedly lost consciousness and crashed the car he was driving at Richardson Road and Richardson Square Way in Arnold, authorities reported.

At 10:40 p.m. Monday (Sept. 27), Christopher S. Fodge, 37, of St. Louis was driving a 2014 Chrysler 300 west on Richardson Road, crossed the center line and hit an eastbound 2013 Ford F-150 head-on, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Christopher S. Fenton, 37, of Imperial was driving the pickup, and no injuries were reported for him.

Arnold Police Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said authorities didn’t know why Fodge passed out while driving.

Valentine also said an Arnold Police officer broke out the driver-side window of the Chrysler to get Fodge out of the car.

He said Rock Township Ambulance personnel performed CPR on Fodge for about 30 minutes before transporting him to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County.

Fodge was not wearing a seat belt, and Fenton was wearing one, the patrol reported.

The car was moderately damaged, and the pickup had minor damage, the report said.
